Presentation

The PhD Program in International Studies was established in the academic year 2013/2014 within the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DSUS).

Program duration: 3 years

Coordinator: Raffaele Nocera

Educational Objectives

The PhD in International Studies (DSI) is a space for critical reflection, scholarly exchange, and interdisciplinary research. It fosters the development of research activities aligned with the academic priorities of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DSUS), and is grounded in the analysis of historical, political, economic, legal, geographical, sociological, philosophical, anthropological, linguistic, and artistic-cultural processes that shape modern and contemporary society. International Studies is approached not only as a field addressing global and transnational issues, but also as a broader interpretative framework for understanding the complex, interdisciplinary dynamics of today's political, social, economic, and cultural life. This multidimensional approach defines both the scientific structure of the program and the organization of its teaching activities. Since its establishment in 2013, the PhD program has focused on the international, regional, global, transnational, and intercultural dimensions of research. It functions as the third level of academic training, in continuity with the undergraduate and master’s programs offered by the Department. The ultimate goal is to train early-career scholars and professionals capable of working in both academic and non-academic fields that are fully aligned with the themes and methodologies of the program.
