Research

Corpo della pagina

Research within the PhD Program in International Studies is inherently interdisciplinary, with a strong focus on the historical, political, linguistic, and cultural dimensions of Africa, Asia, and the Mediterranean. Each doctoral research project is shaped around an original research question, with careful attention to both theoretical frameworks and empirical investigation.

The program places particular emphasis on methodological diversity. PhD candidates are supported throughout the development of their research through a structured training program that includes seminars, workshops and expert talks. Methodological tools range from archival research to fieldwork, from digital humanities to academic writing.

A key feature of the program is its international orientation. Active partnerships with foreign universities and research centers provide opportunities for co-tutoring agreements, research mobility, and integration into global academic networks.
Doctoral research often includes study periods abroad, participation in international conferences, and publication in peer-reviewed venues.

The physical spaces dedicated to doctoral research play a vital role in supporting academic work. PhD students have access to:

  • Dedicated study rooms
  • Fully equipped classrooms
  • Specialized databases
  • Departmental research centers and University libraries

Doctoral research is closely connected to broader societal dynamics. PhD activities are integrated with the University’s Third Mission and Public Engagement goals: many projects are designed to engage with society, collaborate with cultural institutions, and address public issues.
Regional and national engagement and social impact are increasingly central to the research conducted within the program.

This section will soon feature:
